    Description

This vintage hardcover book, "Education in Depressed Areas" comes in good to very good
condition, with fully intact binding, minor denting of the top cover corners, lightly soiled outer page edges, and very light general handling wear and soiling (see pictures).
The book is the result of a "Work Conference on Curriculum and Teaching in Depressed Urban Areas" held in July, 1962 at Teachers College, Columbia University.  The conference included educators from 24 cities, and explored such topics as "Urban Development and the Educational System", "Ego Development Among Segregated Negro Children", "Educational Stimulation of Racially Disadvantaged Children", "Social Stratification and Academic Achievement", and "Educational Problems of Segregation and Desegregation".
The book was written by several authors, and edited by A. Harry Passow (Professor of Education at Teachers College), and published by The Bureau of Publications, Teachers College, Columbia University in 1963.
The book was part of an exhibit by Gary, IN resident Victor Travis at the DuSable Museum of African American History in Chicago.  It is a great piece of Black Americana.
