    Description

Turkey Trott and the Black Santa by Kate Gambold Dyer - 1942 - First Edition. Condition is "Good". Shipped with USPS Media Mail. Please look at all the photos and ask questions before you purchase this book. It is a wonderful book, written in the dialect of the times.
This is the story of a very poor black washerwoman with children named after jewels “Turky” is short for turquoise. Her children begin to talk about what they want for Christmas, and knowing she has no money for any gifts she explains to them that Santa is a while man and doesn’t bring Christmas to negro children. She tells them they are going downtown to get their eyes full of treasures from the Christmas window displays and that night they will pop popcorn and share their treasures with one another. The story goes on with wonderful stories about Turky getting lost and finding his own Christmas gifts. It is a beautiful book.
The book is in very good condition. The inside cover has an inscription to someone on their birthday but the rest of the book is in wonderful condition with pages all intact, pictures clear, colors bright and some surface dirt on the outside covers. I’m sure this was read many times over the years.
